A small defeat for the Belgian Cats in Belarus

A matter of details: 76-71

Belarus won 76-71 against the Belgian Cats in group G, Belgiums first qualifying game for Eurobasket Women 2017. The young team of head coach Philip Mestdagh lacked just some details to realise a big performance. Emma Meesseman scored 31 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and added 5 assists while Julie Vanloo also had 15 points. The Belgian team fought incredibly hard to stay in close range of the Belarus team. The Belarussian experience, 4th at the last European Championship in june, made the difference.

After 38-36 at half time, Belgium came back very strong to take the lead 44-46. But then ten points in a row for Belarus at the end of the third quarter built the gap (59-49).

Belgium never lost the enthusiasm and came back once again within two points (68-66) with 4 minutes to play. Some details and the money-time played to the advantage of the Belarussian team who won with a narrow margin, 76-71.
