Belgian Cats getting ready for Belarus

Thirtythree teams are looking to qualify for EuroBasket Women 2017. The participation of host country Czech Republic is already guaranteed, while 15 other countries are set to get their ticket through the Qualification Round.

Qualification Round starts in November 2015

The Qualification Round will be played in 6 groups of 4 teams and 3 groups of 3 teams. The best team in each group will earn a ticket to EuroBasket 2017, as well as the 6 best second placed teams. Belgium got tossed in Group G, along with Belarus – who finished #4 at EuroBasket 2015 – and Poland – #18 at EuroBasket 2015.

All games (home and away games) in the Qualification Round will be played in 6 windows throughout 2015 and 2016. Coach Philip Mestdagh’s squad will play on:

  • 25/11/2015 vs. Belarus
  • 20/2/2016 vs. Poland
  • 19/11/2016 vs. Belarus
  • 23/11/2016 vs. Poland

Coach Mestdagh selected 16 players to prepare for the first game against Belarus. Amongst them, Emma Meesseman, the WNBA-star who is playing in Spartak Moscow right now.

The team will play 3 friendly games in preparation for Belarus? On November 18, 20 &  21, Belgium will host The Netherlands once and Finland twice. These games will be played in Namur or Braine l’Alleud.
